Hair Loss Drugs

Introduction to Finasteride

This hair loss drug is recommended to our patients that are noticing the first signs of hair loss. This drug will not regrow any lost hair due to pattern baldness if the loss is long-term and the roots have died.

However it can revive dying roots where the root is still apparent. One thing is for sure, it will prevent further hair loss.

I'd like to take this opportunity to discuss drug therapy with you. In particular Finasteride (Propecia). A drug that good many of you may be currently using as an adjunct to hair transplant surgery. A drug that I have quite an interesting personal history with.

It was my prior use of the Finasteride that resulted in my being presented to the ISHRS (international Society of Hair Restorations) conference in Toronto 1992 when Merck, Sharpe & Dohme aired their 'new' drug to packed the conference for the first time.

A drug that HDHT recommends to patients as an adjunct to their surgery. To boost the new growth and to prevent against further hair loss in the future. Please note. We DO NOT supply the generic (copy) versions of Finasteride,. Only the original MSD product as shown.

It's not often one finds themselves paraded' in front of a group of surgeon's at a major hair loss conference. Having them examine my scalp to see the results of my 2 years use of a drug that they had just heard about.

All due to my obsession with losing my hair.

Yes, I'm a 'hair-nut' in every sense of the word and I don't mind admitting it.

I'd read about the possible side-effects of Finasteride in some obscure Californian newspaper a couple of years before and I still wanted some!!

Just a few lines about the clinical trials of the drug for Prostate and it 's side-effect of regrowing lost hair was all I needed to read. Hang the side effects, I wanted my hair back!!!

Not my advice to anyone else. It makes sense to check with your doctor first before taking any medicine. Then, as I said I was obsessive about my hair!

It was my prior use of the drug that resulted in my being presented to the I.S.H.R.S (international Society of Hair Restorations) conference in Toronto 1992 When Merck, Sharpe & Dohme 'aired' their 'new' drug to packed conference for the first time.

Minutes before, I'd mentioned to one of the doctors sitting next to me that I had been using the drug for the previous 2 years.

Word must have reached the conference Chairman Dr. O'Tar Norwood -noted for his development of the 'Norwood chart' - The chart that denotes various stages of hair loss. Mid-way through his opening address on Finasteride Dr. Norwood pointed toward me, suggesting that anyone wishing to see the results of my 2 years use of the drug should talk to me.

Some months later a medical 'paper' was written up on my success with the drug by my former Partner/Associate at that time, Dr. Bessam Farjo. Then later published in 'Forum' the I.S.H.R.S monthly journal. I think it's time I requested a copy of it for use on my site.
